The Mining, Energy and Water Summit 2013 is part of CESCO Week

CRU and CESCO will be holding the second Mining, Energy and Water Summit on the 11 April at the Grand Hyatt Santiago, Chile, as part of CESCO Week. The Summit will feature key speakers from the Energinet, E.on, AMSA, National Energy Commission, The Government of Chile, CDEC, Consejo Minero and Caserones who will be addressing the implications of the energy and water crisis on the long term future of the Chilean mining sector; and by consequence the copper market.

The one day Summit will open with addresses from CESCO, Minister of Mining and Minister of Energy as well as keynote speakers from Association of Chile Generators and Antofagasta.

There will be three key sessions focussing on:

– Improving energy availability for the mining sector

– New sources of Energy generation

– Energy and Water

As Chile increases copper production, more pressure will be placed on energy and water resources. Chile’s north is the most important copper reserve in the world, it is also one of the world’s driest regions and far removed from Chile’s richest sources of hydro electricity in the south of the country.

Declining ore grades, green field and brown field expansion are all putting more pressure on Chile’s energy and water resources increasing technical difficulty, adding to costs and creating conflicts with political, social and environmental groups.

This event will offer a useful platform for discussion of these issues within the mining community and provide mining professionals with an opportunity to put their question to industry experts.

This Summit will be held alongside the 12th CRU World Copper Conference, which is taking place on the 8-10 April 2013 in Santiago.  The conference attracts over 600 leaders annually from the mining, financial and related industries.
