FirstEnergy Nuclear Operating Company (FENOC), a subsidiary of FirstEnergy Corp said it’s Beaver Valley Power Station Unit 1 in Pennsylvania, US has returned to service.

The 911MW Unit 1, which was shutdown on 9 April 2012 for refueling and maintenance work, is currently operating at 40% power and is expected to reach full power this week. Maintenance work involved in replacement of 65 of the 157 fuel assemblies along with safety inspections and other maintenance and improvement projects.

Beaver Valley Unit 1 had generated more than 9.3 million megawatt hours of electricity since November 2010, when it underwent refueling. The company said the plant posted top-decile forced-loss rate of 0.01% during the past 18 months of operation.

FENOC operates the Davis-Besse Nuclear Power Station and the Perry Nuclear Power Plant located in Ohio.
