Swedish onshore wind power company Arise Windpower signed an exclusive agreement with Argyll Estates to develop plans for a wind farm in Scotland.

Argyll Estates is located across an area of more than 30,000ha in the west of Scotland. The wind farm is expected to comprise up to 35 turbines situated on the west coast, which has optimal wind conditions.

Arise plans to file an application for the planning permission on the estates within 24 months. Once the permission is secured, the company aims to commence construction work in 2016.

The agreement complements the company’s strategy to diversify its portfolio of projects through the construction of major wind farms outside Sweden, such as Norway and Scotland.

Arise has plans to implement the projects independently, as well as in partnership with other long-term investors.

Arise also seeks to sign additional contracts in Scotland for the development of large estates. These projects are expected to enter into construction phase between 2016 and 2018.

By 2017, the company expects to construct and manage 1,000MW of onshore wind power, including 500MW from its own turbines.
