The Kerala State Electricity Board (KSEB) in India plans to promote off-grid solar power plants to increase solar power generation in the state by 300MW.

The utility will target domestic consumers with a consumption rate of over 200 units of electricity and provide developers with generation-based incentives under the initiative.

KSEB is determined to reduce the acute energy deficit in the state through the implementation of alternate sources such as off-grid solar installation with battery backup.

The proposal, which is now before the state electricity regulatory commission, also highlights the possible cost savings obtained via replacing expensive grid power with solar energy, reported The Times of India.

KSEB plans to add 300MW of energy from solar sources in its 12th plan period and plans to set up photovoltaic installations on government buildings, besides reservoirs and open channels.
