SGS has signed an agreement with Latech to provide seismic qualification of nuclear power plant transformers to be installed in a Korean power plant.

SGS said it began conducting earthquake testing in 2010 on nuclear power plant products and components, electrical communication equipment and railway systems in its Korean laboratory located in Giheung.

The laboratory performs all types of earthquake tests on samples of nuclear power plant products and components, electrical communication equipment and railway systems, not exceeding a maximum weight of 3,000kg and dimensions of 2500(W)x2500(D)x3000(H) mm.

SGS will provide Latech a report after completing earthquake testing at the Korean power plant. The report features analysed data, which includes required response spectrum, test response spectrum, frequency and acceleration measurements, a performance checklist and resonance search data.

SGS operates a network of more than 1,500 offices and laboratories across the world.
