Petrofac Emirates, UK-based Petrofac’s joint venture company with Mubadala Petroleum, has won a contract worth $3.7bn, to develop the Upper Zakum, UZ750 field in Abu Dhabi.

The company in consortium with Daewoo Shipbuilding & Marine Engineering will develop the oil field. Petrofac Emirates’ share of the contract is valued at $2.9bn.

Under the contract, the consortium will be responsible for the engineering, procurement, construction, transportation and commissioning of island surface facilities on four artificial islands.

The project will include supply of wellhead control, manifolds, crude oil process facilities, water injection and gas lift, oil export pumps, power generation, and associated utilities.

Facilities will begin operations in 2016. Petrofac Onshore Engineering & Construction business managing director Subramanian Sarma said the company has been selected to deliver the Upper Zakum project in Abu Dhabi.

“Through Petrofac Emirates we continue to show our commitment to supporting the oil & gas industry in Abu Dhabi and this project builds on the substantial work we have underway in the UAE,” Sarma added.

“We look forward to developing our relationship with ZADCO through the successful delivery of this strategically important project.”

The contract was awarded by Zakum Development Company (ZADCO), a subsidiary of Abu Dhabi National Oil Company, set up to develop the Upper Zakum field.
