Gulfsands drills exploration well in Morocco’s Rharb Centre permit

Gulfsands Petroleum PLC has successfully drilled the Lalla Yetou Updip-1well (LTU-1) in the Rharb Centre permit of northern Morocco.

Drilled to a total depth of 1,182 m, LTU-1 flowed gas through a 28/64-in. choke at 6.6 MMscfd with no formation water produced.

The company says LTU-1 is being monitored for pressure build-up, after which the well will be temporarily suspended as a future gas producer.

“This well is the first well location to be drilled following our interpretation of seismic data acquired in the recently completed Rharb 3D seismic program, which we hope will provide a firm foundation for further drilling successes on this permit,” said Mahdi Sajjad, Gulfsands chief executive officer.

The company in 2013 spudded the Al Krima-1 well on the Rharb Centre permit, which at the time was the first of nine wells to be drilled in two back-to-back programs on the company’s Rharb permits (OGJ Online, Oct. 29, 2013).
