Lamprell, an engineering and construction services provider, has secured a contract from Singapore-based Dev Drilling, a Jindal Group company, to build and deliver an offshore drilling rig.

Under the contract, Dubai-based Lamprell will construct a completely outfitted and equipped, LeTourneau designed, self-elevating Mobile Offshore Drilling Platform of a Super 116E (Enhanced) Class design.

The rig will be designed to be able to operate in water depths of up to 350ft and have rated drilling depth of 30,000ft. Lamprell will fabricate the jackup rig in Hamriyah, UAE and take about 18 months time to complete the construction phase of the project.

The company has secured its second contract with Jindal after it won a contract in November 2011, following which it is building a Super 116E rig for delivery in November 2013.

As a part of the new contract, Jindal Group has an option for Lamprell to construct a further jackup rig, exercisable during a period of six months from the effective date of the contract.
