Cummins Inc. Cummins Power Systems, a division of Cummins Inc., announced the release of the Onan QG 2800i and 2500i, a new family of gasoline and liquid propane (LP) generator sets for the recreational vehicle market. The units are ready for immediate order as of January 4, 2021.

“These generators are a huge step forward over the sets they replace. Based on our tests, the QG 2800i and 2500i are 62.7% quieter and have 60.6% less vibration than our current products,” said Jennifer Hodson, Director of the Consumer Segment for Cummins Power Systems. “They are even quieter than the leading portable generator on the market.”

The Onan QG 2800i and 2500i are 2.8 kW and 2.5 kW inverter-based generator sets made primarily for Class B and truck campers. This new generator family also includes a gasoline EVAP model, making it available for towable applications. Unlike the previous fixed-speed models, these generators can vary their engine speed to only run as fast as needed. This means a nearly 50% improvement on fuel consumption, less noise, and (due to the inverter) cleaner power for sensitive electronics.

“Our customers are not only getting a quieter and more efficient generator, but it is also easier to operate and maintain, with fewer required maintenance checks,” said Karl Wilson, Cummins National Sales Leader. “It is also 9% lighter, and because we moved to electronic fuel injection, fuel varnishing issues are eliminated.”

Wilson said the product has performed extremely well in customer field tests, in all environments, temperatures, and altitudes. “We think our customers are going to be really happy to get their hands on this generator.”
