Brazilian oil company Petrobras has awarded a $260m contract to Prysmian Group with regard to a frame agreement for umbilical products for offshore oil and gas extraction.

The award refers to a frame agreement for 360km of umbilicals. According to Prysmian, most of it will be used in pre-salt fields in 16 different cross sections and related ancillaries, offshore services and qualifications.

Petrobras has also awarded a $95m contract to the group to extend the existing frame agreement for flexible pipes to 2016.

Of the total value, $20m have already been called off for the Macabu, Jubarte and Marlim Leste fields.

Prysmian Group will manufacture both the umbilicals and the flexible pipes for the new contracts in its Vila Velha and Brazil plants.

Prysmian SURF BU vice president and head José Luiz Dacal Castro said the company is about to finalize the on-going qualification process for 6″ flexible pipes.

“We are also strongly engaged to develop products and technologies for the harsher Pre-Salt layer,” Castro added.
