KrisEnergy, an independent oil and gas company, has commenced drilling of Tayum-1 exploration well in the Kutai production sharing contract (PSC), offshore Kalimantan in the Makassar Strait, Indonesia.

The Kutai PSC has one onshore and three offshore areas together spread over 2,832km² in the Mahakam River delta in East Kalimantan.

The exploration well Tayum-1 is situated between two gas discovery wells Mangkok-1 ST4 and Dambus-1 well.

KirsEnergy has plans to spud the well to a total measured depth of 3,391m and further prove the aggregate gas resources.

KrisEnergy Exploration & Production director Chris Gibson-Robinson said the Tayum-1 well is the company’s second operated well to be drilled on gas and near-term gas developments.

“Tayum-1 has the potential to add significant gas resources in the area between the Dambus and Mangkok discoveries and, if successful, would high-grade similar prospects in the area,” Gibson-Robinson added.

“The Kutai PSC is proximate to existing infrastructure and may require only a relatively short pipeline to connect the development to market.” The company is drilling the well using Randolph Yost jack-up rig.

KrisEnergy is the operator of the Kutai PSC with 54.6% working interest, while co-partners Salamander Energy and Orchid Kutai hold 23.4% and 22% interest, respectively.
